Ronda Rousey Has High Praise and a “Funnie” Name for PFL’s Kayla Harrison

Ronda Rousey Kayla Harrison PFL

A dominant Olympian judoka who transitions into an MMA career and immediately becomes a highly hyped prospect who dominates everyone she fights. It sure sounds like vintage Ronda Rousey, but this is about Doug.

Sorry, not the Nickelodeon cartoon about the adventures of a kid and his dog Porkchop, Doug was actually Ronda’s nickname for Kayla Harrison. She credits Ronda ‘Honda’ for coming up with it, but it was actually former Bellator fighter Rick Hawn.

“We all would do strength and conditioning in the morning and Rick Hawn just started throwing up because we worked out really hard. So, Kayla went and told everybody that Rick threw up,” Ronda said. “He and I used to work at Home Depot together so I was giving him sh-t, ‘Oh, I heard you threw up at training.’ He was like, ‘Who told you that? Kayla told you that, didn’t she? She’s such a, she’s such a, …Doug!’ I don’t know why but I thought it was the most hilarious thing. Seeing Rick that frustrated and the only thing that came out as an insult was Doug.”

All jokes aside, there’s nothing Funnie about Doug’s skills, Skeeter. Honk, honk. Just like how Ronda put the UFC Women’s Bantamweight division on the map, Harrison is now making her own strides by tossing lightweight chicks on their head in the Professional Fighters League for a million bucks.

Just two fights into Harrison’s pro-MMA career, analysts already foresee more shiny accolades for the two-time Olympic gold medalist. They’re not the only ones either. Ronda believes that her old homie Doug can live up to any prophecy predicted for her. Write that down in your journal.

“I think she’s going to do extremely well in MMA. When she was in judo, she was always extremely good at taking directions and sticking to a plan,” she said. “She’s a very coachable person and I think if she’s matched up with the right people and has the right person in that chair, she has the potential to be extraordinarily successful.”
