Take a Look at Ronda and UFC Champ Cormier Marking Out Over Pro Wrestling in 2014
Long before her WWE career, Ronda Rousey was a WWE fan, drawn to the spectacle of wrestlers like Ric Flair and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. Ronda often spoke about her love of pro wrestling while competing in the UFC, but a 2014 conversation with current UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier showed just how much both fighters enjoyed the world of sports entertainment:
During the interview, Ronda and Daniel went back-and-forth sharing stories of their favorite wrestlers. While Cormier made it known that he was a big fan of “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Ronda—of course—touted “Rowdy” Roddy Piper as her fave.
Cormier went on to tell a story about contemplating a career in pro wrestling before he turned his sights to MMA. Apparently, the pain of taking a few bumps during a TNA/Impact Wrestling tryout was more than enough to end his dreams of becoming a pro wrestler. (And now Ronda takes those painful bumps herself in a WWE ring.) But while Cormier may have given up his in-ring aspirations, he might still be WWE-bound: After his UFC 230 title defense, he plans to travel to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, FL, to for a commentary position.
Wouldn’t it be a sight to see Ronda, a former UFC champion and current RAW Women’s Champion, have a title match called by a UFC two-division champion in Cormier?
