Video 32: Zombie Apocalypse Drills

All work and no play make Ronda Rousey and students of judo time go crazy. This zombie apocalypse drill is fun but also will help you get really, really good at throwing people with your new judo skills and help you survive the end of the world. Don’t get bit!


Here are the main things:

1. Uke approaches slowly with arms extended.

Have your partner do their best Walking Dead impression. Make sure they’re doing the classic slow zombie and not those freaky ones that run at you like a decomposing Usain Bolt. How do they even do that if all their joints are rotten? Anyway, this will make your partner a walking dummy for judo throws.

2. Find your attacking distance.

This is what this exercise is all about. Your opponent is moving now so it’s awesome for being able to judge the proper distance you need to execute any throw or sweep that you want to pull off. You can even take turns being the zombie. As with most Ronda Rousey instructionals, sound effects are optional.

3. Throw on both sides.

By now, this should go without saying but throw on both your sides. Switch up techniques, use a throw here, a sweep there, but always do both sides. Become ambidextrous with your judo. Become a badass. Become “Rowdy.”
