Earlier this month, Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services opened up their new building which proudly displayed a sign telling everyone exactly what they’re here for. That may seem like par for the course for any building which provides a service, but not if that service is suicide prevention.

“We’re 60 years old and today we’re about to be the only building in California—and probably in the nation—that has the word suicife prevention on the front of the building,” Didi Hirsch CEO Kita Curry said. “We drive by buildings that say Cancer Center and Cardiovascular Center, it’s about time we brought suicide out of the shadows and into the light.”

Ronda has worked with Didi Hirsch for years now and has donated profits from four different t-shirts sold right here on RondaRousey.com to help them provide their mental health services. Not only is their work with positive body image important to her, but she’s also a victim of suicide loss herself.

“I was eight years old when I lost my dad to suicide. It had a huge effect on my life. Everything in my life has been affected by it ever since,” she said. “I think there’s some survivor’s guilt in a way for a lot of people that lose someone and then go on to have a great life. It’s a very complicated and layered issue that people don’t address and I’m just really happy this prevention center exists.”

Didi Hirsch is a veritable hub of positivity. A new mural bursting with flowers created by activist Ed Massey was also unveiled, to symbolize that there can be healing and hope after suicide. The Center provides a 24-hour crisis line, support groups, therapy, community outreach, education, and certified training for mental health professionals.

“These are all free services for people that can’t afford it and is available to all people in Los Angeles. This affects everybody,” she said. “This is something that everyone deals with and a lot of people don’t feel comfortable talking about and I think this is the first step of opening that dialogue and making sure the people who need help get it.”
