New Additions to the WWE 2K19 Roster Highlights the Best of WWE Programming

Dave Walsh

Right now is perhaps one of the most exciting times to be a fan of pro wrestling and the latest installment in WWE and 2K Games’ WWE 2K series, WWE 2K19, is no better example of that. Wrestling has long been defined to most fans as the major leagues, like WWE, but over the last ten years or so the prominence of the Internet has helped to elevate a host of new stars while exposing fans around the world to new styles, faces, and attitudes in wrestling.

WWE has adapted to produce more than just their flagship programming of WWE Raw, WWE Smackdown and monthly PPVs, with programs like NXT and 205 Live, as well as special events like the Cruiserweight Classic, the Mae Young Classic and the WWE NXT UK events as well. With this expansion has come a host of new talent, most of which were familiar to the hardcore wrestling fans around the world and have been working towards becoming household names for fans of the WWE.

WWE 2K19 is the perfect cross-section of this by adding a staggering 45 new competitors to the roster this year, with it being a unique blend of WWE legends, new faces, returning faces and some of the biggest stars of today. Included in these 45 names are UFC legend and WWE superstar Ronda Rousey, UK talent like Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne, NXT stars like Shayna Baszler, Ricochet and Velveteen Dream to legends like Rowdy Roddy Piper and Rey Misterio. There’s a LOT of new faces that either wasn’t in the previous installment of WWE 2K18 or simply have never been in a WWE game before.

So while the big names from WWE history like The Undertaker, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Trish Stratus and John Cena will always be in the mix, as will current stars like Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch and a host of others, WWE 2K19 provides a wider glimpse into what is called the WWE Universe by showcasing talent from all of WWE’s brands.

The roster would even lure in lapsed fans who don’t follow WWE programming as religiously anymore, but were fans prior and enjoy wrestling outside of the WWE, as those fans could get their fix of legends while being able to play as stars like Ricochet, Kyle O’Reilly, Bobby Fish, EC3 and others who are very recent additions to WWE and were best known for their work around the globe.

Much like WWE has diversified their programming to account for different types of fans, WWE 2K19 presents that same diversity to fans in this edition of the series in what should prove to be an exciting addition to any wrestling fan’s gaming library.
