NXT: Pirates of the NXT Universe

After putting on a dominant performance against NXT newcomer Trish Adora, Kairi Sane celebrated her win and return to Full Sail for the first time post-NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV—with a jovial pirate dance.

However, said pirate dance was cut short by Shayna Baszler’s party-crashing. And if the interruption wasn’t enough, she made sure to knock over the new champion’s treasure chest, which has to be some form of bad luck. (Also, in case you missed it, Kairi Sane has a treasure chest where she keeps her gold coins and NXT Women’s Championship.) Baszler had a message for her rival:

“Enjoy your little pirate treasure fantasy while you can, Kairi. Because reality is gonna hit that ship like a cannonball after I enact my rematch clause. But tonight—tonight, let’s see if this pirate can swim.”

Unfortunately for “The Queen of Spades” and the statement she wanted to make, this pirate couldn’t just swim—she could actually be lifeguard-certified. While Baszler was able to get some strikes in and put Sane down, that ended up only being a temporary dominance; as Sane’s fighting spirit picked her back up, she was able to hit Baszler with a flurry of strikes of her own, punctuated by a spear. Baszler was luckily able to head for higher ground on the entrance the ramp, only gaining any sort of upper hand in the form of kicking some of the gold coins off the stage.

Consider this a reminder from Kairi Sane: This is her championship now, not Baszler’s.
