NXT: Shayna Baszler Once Again Successfully Defends Her NXT Women’s Championship

The main event of this week’s NXT sees Shayna Baszler put her NXT Women’s Championship on the line against former champion and recent SmackDown call-up Kairi Sane. The two have battled in the ring before, so to say that there’s bad blood here would be an understatement, especially when the title is on the line.

Sane is all over Baszler early, dropping the champ with a brutal spinning fist and coming close to ending the match quickly with a move off the top rope. Baszler hits back with a monster knee strike that gets a near fall. Both women come hot out of the gate. There’s no feeling out process here, these two have matched up numerous times before.

Sane, still reeling from the knee to the jaw, comes back with a spear and open palm strikes, then grounds the champ with a dragonscrew leg whip. Sane goes up top and hits an InSane Elbow to Baszler’s back. She goes up for another, and Baszler catches her there, but her lower back, hurting from that elbow, gives out when she goes for a superplex. Sane sends her opponent to the outside, but when she comes flying off the apron she smashes into the barricade, hurting her arm.

That means Baszler knows where to attack. She twists Sane’s arm into all sorts of terrifying positions. It looks like Sane can’t even go anymore, and the doctors are brought out. Baszler won’t allow the match to end that way though, and she drags Sane back in the ring to break her arm for good. That’s when fellow Sky Pirate Io Shirai gets involved, putting her hands on Baszler and getting Sane disqualified. It’s all for naught too, as Shirai can’t save her partner from punishment. Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke hold Shirai down and make her watch as Baszler stomps on Sane’s arm. Another statement made by the “Queen of Spades” and the reigning NXT Women’s Champion.
