NXT – August 21, 2019

On this week’s NXT, after another winning effort against Vanessa Borne, Mia Yim was immediately approached by NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler. Two weeks after their championship battle at NXT TakeOver: Toronto, “The Queen of Spades” had only one thing on her mind. Only, it wasn’t exactly what anyone—including Mia—expected:

“Mia, you are badass. You fought me and took to places that nobody else has been able to.  And I’ll tell you what: I saw it. I saw it in your eyes. You have had to go to some dark depths to climb yourself out of the places you’ve been. But I got to thinkin’: We don’t need to stand across each other like enemies. You can stand right beside me.”

At that point, Shayna had finally made it from the ramp to the ring apron, and out of nowhere, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir were on the ring apron across from her (and behind Mia). But Shayna continued to talk, and this was not an attack—it was a proposition. According to Shayna, “It’s nice and warm here under the dragon’s wing.” So she wanted to know what Mia had to say. The NXT Universe (and “Mia Militia,” as Mauro Ranallo noted on commentary) at Full Sail University chanted “NO,” and then Mia decided to answer the same with her fists, taking on all three women.

Big mistake. Huge. Because of math, obviously. Mia rejected Shayna’s seemingly earnest offer, and for that, she ended up getting beaten down by the champion and her cohorts. The beating only ended when WWE officials came out to break things up and check on Mia, who ended up lying in the center of the ring while three of the Four Horsewomen were able to talk out on their own volition.

After the attack, Mia went to NXT General Manager William Regal to get him to do something about this attack. But, forever the most rational, level-headed authority figure in all of WWE, Regal reminded Mia how she jumped the Four Horsewomen in the process of getting Shayna’s attention for that aforementioned NXT Women’s Championship match in the first place.

“What’d you expect,” he asked. I mean, he’s not wrong. What’s the saying? Don’t start nothing, won’t be nothing. Mia Yim would do well to remember that, as it’s a lesson Shayna Baszler and the Four Horsewomen seemed to learn during this rivalry.
