Let’s Watch Ronda Rousey Knock Out ‘Saturday Night Live’ Again

Ronda Rousey Saturday Night Live

Most people are more afraid of public speaking than they are of death. Add live comedy to that formula and it’s horrifying. Lucky for Ronda Rousey, most of her career involved people trying to kill her, so hosting Saturday Night Live for the first time wasn’t that scary.

Although, when Ronda entered training camps, she had months to prepare for her fights. For SNL, the entire show is written and performed in just one week.

“It’s just really interesting to see the process. They come in on Monday and everyone has no idea what they’re really doing,” she told Megan Olivi. “Then Tuesday they’re like, ‘Ok, we’re just going to stay up all night and write!’ And they write all night long and we start looking through everything on Wednesday.”

The whole cast and crew were in her corner. They broke up her monologue into rounds and hired a coach to make her more comfortable. She even got to backhand Justin Bieber. (Even though he was played by Kate McKinnon, it still had to be satisfying.)

Throughout the show, Ronda was able to get revenge on high school bullies, throat punch school jock Beck Bennett, become a hot teacher at the center of a scandal, and spoof The Bachelor‘s collection of weird contestants. Surprisingly, these were all unrelated skits.

Everyone shared some laughs, Ronda poked fun at herself and when it was all said and done, she developed a deep respect for the folks who do this insanity every week.

“I’m just amazed at how people can be creative on a deadline like that. Everyone here is so talented and this is the only environment that I think really enforces crazy, almost athlete-like work ethic in this kind of industry.”
