SmackDown: Ronda Rousey and Raquel Rodriguez Form an Impromptu Tag Team
It has been three weeks since our Ronda Rousey won the SmackDown Women’s title from Charlotte Flair, and in that time, things have been kind of quiet. But a new contender has been building herself up. First, let’s recap the last month: Charlotte Flair said “I Quit.” Ronda immediately issued an open challenge and defended her title on the SmackDown after WrestleMania Backlash—in a hard-fought win against Raquel Rodriguez—and took a week off to get some rest with Pō. Now, we’re back with Rodriguez challenging once again.
RR went to Browsey Acres after defeating RR, and who is waiting for RR when she gets back to SmackDown? RR! This makes sense. Fans and WWE brass-alike seem to be pleased with the good sportsmanship and straight-up great wrestling the two showed a few weeks ago. And for Raquel, she was damn near the mountaintop had she landed that Chingona Bomb.
But Shotzi, Xia Li, Nattie Neidhart (???) and Shayna Baszler (??!?!) don’t seem too happy about Raquel getting another match against Ronda. Hey, it’s not her fault people are really into how she’s probably the second-strongest woman on the entire women’s roster.
So Raquel walked out, all smiles. Then out came Ronda. Then we cut back to the women’s locker room to see Shotzi motivating the hell out of Nattie and Shayna to go ruin the Ronda match for some reason. (She wanted a title shot all for herself was the reason…)
Ronda and Raquel had a nice little thing going for a second, with Ronda showing off her crafty maneuvers no matter where she was in the ring, going for her armbars, rollups, and more until Shayna and Nattie indeed ruined the party (as Shotzi was stuck locked in the women’s locker room):
Ronda and Raquel barely started getting warmed up when the match was so rudely interrupted, but for the sake of violence, WWE officials allowed it to be a tag match. Ronda definitely had it out for Nattie, who tried to get one over on Ronda at the Royal Rumble:
Ronda and Shayna, though, luckily they kept it pretty civil:
In the end, Ronda was on the outside dealing with Nattie, when Shayna got bombed by Rodriguez for the three.
