The Discovery Channel outdid themselves on this year’s Shark Week. One of the most deadly animals on the earth would finally come face-to-face with a shark.

Ronda Rousey diving down and being within arm’s length of the sea’s apex predators even had the experts nervous, but not in the way you may think.

“Paul [De Gelder] and I were looking at each other,” shark cinematographer Joe Romeiro said. “I forgot who said it — they were like, ‘We’ve got to remember, there’s a live animal in the water.’ And I’m like, ‘Forget about the water, there’s a wild animal in the boat.'”

Diving trainer Paul De Gelder and cameraman Joe Romeiro knew they had precious cargo with former UFC champion and latest WWE superstar Ronda Rousey, but they were equally concerned with the repercussions Travis Browne would dish out if something happened.

“Rowdy” Ronda climbed to the top of the food chain in the ocean nearly as fast as she did in the UFC, but she didn’t do it with force. Rousey’s steadfast courage isn’t enough to pet and feed mako sharks, she also came equipped with a great respect for their power and habitat.

“I’ve always been a fan,” De Gelder told TV insider. “I was pretty happy with getting to see the whole progression from her. What an incredible chick. You can tell why she is a world champion at what she does. She just has so much heart.”
